A Love Story
Written Update: Episode 7
Korkut visits Emine’s house where he finds Umut and Emine missing and Hakki tells him that Umut returns home only after selling all his items. Just then, Umut and Emine arrive and Umut gleefully runs into his uncle’s arms. Emine excitedly shows Umut the chicken Korkut bought them and he asks her to prepare it for dinner. Korkut tells Umut that he need not go to work anymore as he will be going to school because his uncle will be taking care of them from now onwards. Umut is skeptical if a boy like him can get admission in a school and Korkut lovingly rubs his hair and says that a cute boy like him will definitely be accepted to a school.
Asiye grills Selim and Ece asking them about Ceylan’s boyfriend. Selim raises his hand and says that he is not aware of anything and then points out to Ece and says that there are people who must be knowing a lot of stuff. Ece fervently denies knowing anything about Ceylan’s boyfriend. Asiye warns of breaking their bones into pieces for hiding anything from her and Ece mentions that she had found a letter which had ‘sweety’ written but had no name on it. Asiye fumes over the revelation and waits for Ceylan’s returns to question her about it.
Gonul scolds Tolga for returning home late and not informing her. He lies about being delayed at the sound recording. She asks him to order some food for dinner as Asiye’s new recipe had not turned out well. Ceylan secretly hands Tolga’s reports without Gonul noticing and he hides it behind his back as he enters the house.
As soon as Gonul closes the door behind Tolga, she is happy to inform him that Ceylan is going to have a long night as she tattled on her boyfriend to her mother Asiye. Tolga looks unimpressed by it and scolds her for saying stuff without knowing the whole story.
The moment Ece opens the door for Ceylan she tells her about Asiye finding her note in her room and Ceylan regrets not hiding it beforehand. Ece asks her about the note and Ceylan reveals that a boy had saved her from a nightmarish night in Germany and today he saved Tolga’s life. Ece is shocked to know that ‘the boy’ is here in Turkey for her and Ceylan clarifies that she has no feelings for him even though he is madly in love with her. (Hahaha… Poor Ceylan)
Ece concludes that the boy is indeed in love with Ceylan and Ceylan boastfully adds that had he not loved her he wouldn’t have come to Turkey all the from Germany. She says that they had spent only one night together and Ece gasps in horror on hearing this. Ceylan clarifies that though she was with him the whole night they didn’t do anything and only slept hugging each other to not feel chilly.
Asiye overhears the bit where Ceylan mentions spending the night with a boy and she comes charging towards her. Ceylan runs for her life as Asiye chases her with a mop in hand. (hahaha)
Gonul brings Tolga dinner and finds him lost in thoughts. He tells her that he feels concerned for Ceylan as she is a good girl and deserves a great guy. He says that he has been her only friend till now and there has never been a chance for her to have anyone else in her life, not even a boyfriend.
Ceylan locks herself in her room and refuses to open it for Asiye. Asiye too does not give up and declares that she shall not move an inch till Ceylan opens the door. Ceylan agrees to open the door only after Asiye promises not to hit her with the mop.
Ceylan tells Asiye that she doesn’t have a boyfriend and that she has never even held a boy’s hand. Asiye asks her to stay in her place as she leaves the room for some reason. On opening the door, she finds Ece and Selim glued to the door trying to hear their conversation. She shoos them away and returns to Ceylan with (what looks like) a sling bag (there could be a book inside it I am not sure). Asiye makes Ceylan swear by the book, Ceylan unhesitatingly complies with her mother’s wishes, and Asiye breathes a sigh of relief.
Ceylan asks her if she doesn’t trust her and Asiye says she doesn’t trust men and is afraid that someone might break her heart. Ceylan consoles her saying she has no boyfriend so nobody can break her heart and Asiye tells her that Ceylan is too naive and trusting and that she isn’t aware of how conniving men can be. Ceylan counters that not all men are the same and there are some good men like her father and Asiye asks her not to consider her father any less as there is no trace of him even at this late hour of the night.
At a bar, Tahsin narrates an incident of the past when Gonul was not a popular singer. He tells his friend that one evening Mustafa was playing the violin exceptionally well and a famous singer was called in to sing for Gonul but all of a sudden the singer got angry with them saying that they were playing the wrong tune. He continues that Gonul intervened and sided them saying that they were playing the tune right. A waiter serving Tahsin and his friend criticises Tahsin for only talking about Gonul and nothing else and Tahsin justifies that he was just reminiscing some old times. Tahsin sighs that a poor man only owns old memories that remind him of his old mistakes.
Ceylan meets Tolga outside his house as he leaves munching on something. She tells him that she is on her way to meet Eda and he asks her to tell him how the meeting goes. She asks him about his plan for the day and he says he plans to meet a friend when she inquires about his ‘friend’ he evades her question and tries to feed her the eatable he was munching on but she resists. He says that she needs to eat as she has lost a lot of weight and she relents when he threatens to throw it away.
Gonul walks in and greets Ceylan who looks away to finish the food in her mouth and gruffly greets her back. Gonul chaffs that she didn’t expect to see Ceylan as she thought her mother would keep her under house-arrest. When Ceylan looks confused she surmises that Asiye approved of the boy and Ceylan asks her which boy and Tolga quickly changes the topic and Ceylan leaves.
Ece is waiting for her school bus when Tolga offers her a lift. Tolga asks her if her mother said anything to Ceylan last night and Ece giggles that her mother ran after Ceylan with a stick. She adds that normally her mom runs with her chappal (flip-flop) but this time she chose a stick. He inquires about Ceylan’s boyfriend and Ece tells him that there is a boy she met in Germany and knows nothing much as it is a top secret. She senses Tolga’s inquisitiveness and promises to update him on the topic in return for a favour.
Embarrassed at having Emine drop him to school, Umut asks her to go back home as he wants to go alone to school. He tells her he is running late and runs to his school before anybody sees him with her. Emine turns to leave when she realises that Umut has left his lunch bag with her and she rushes after him.
Tolga poses with young schoolgirls for a photo as Ece stands counting the money she received from the girls for a picture with him. (What? Hahaha….Ceylan’s siblings are waaaay smarter than her.)
Umut and his friend are near the playground when his friend points out to a crazy woman playing with the children. Umut notices Emine and stands frozen in his place. A teacher walks up to him and informs him about his mother looking for him. He then gets walks up to Emine who lights up seeing him and hands him his lunch bag which he throws away. He then screams at her to leave the place at once and to never return. Children gathered around Emine laugh at her as she picks up the food fallen on the ground.
At a gymkhana, Tolga meets Korkut who invites him inside the pool. Calling him ‘coach’ Tolga is surprised that Korkut hasn’t asked him to do any warm-up and Korkut pulls him in the pool. Tolga struggles to stay afloat and Korkut supports his stomach as Tolga starts flailing his arms. A few tries later Tolga moves in water without any support as Korkut looks on. Tolga tells him that his mother will suffer a heart attack if she sees him in a swimming pool as chlorine is not good for asthma. Korkut coolly tells him that he will get accustomed to it.
Tolga suffers a muscle cramp in his leg and frantically moves his arms to come up for breath. Korkut notices his struggle but waits for a few seconds before jumping in the pool to help him. He grabs him by his waist and brings him to the poolside and says he need not worry as nothing will happen to him.
Tolga and Korkut eat from a road-side stall and Tolga tells him that his mother never eats from such food joints unlike him who enjoys eating from stalls. Korkut says that this food is cheap but tasty and Tolga says that his mother would never agree to eat from such a place. Korkut asks him if Gonul is a strict mother and Tolga explains that Gonul is actually very good to him and that despite having a busy career she still managed to take good care of him. Korkut sneers that rich and famous people like Gonul will leave anybody behind for the sake of their careers. Tolga casually replies that for his mother he is the most important person. Korkut forces smile as he crushes the cola tin in his hand.
In Eda’s vanity van, Ceylan and Eda watch the news showing Tolga confess his love to Eda by his balcony. Ceylan is surprised by the report as there was no one around when they were together at his house. Ceylan suspects Eda having to do something with this news leak, Eda’s eyes widen in surprise, and she quickly exits the van when summoned for her shot. Ceylan receives a call from Tolga who seems panicked over the news leak. She assures him of taking care of the news and tells him not to fret over it.
Tolga bangs his head against the car as Korkut drives on. Tolga blames Eda’s co-star for the news leak and Korkut counters that he will gradually learn that women are not to be trusted. Tolga asks him to say stuff clearly and Korkut says that perhaps the news leak is Eda’s doing. Tolga rubbishes his guess and says she has no reason to do so. Korkut remarks that women can go to any length for fame and money and Tolga counters that Eda needs neither. Korkut states that Tolga is yet to learn a lot of things as the world is such where you can’t even trust your mother.
Ceylan is repulsed by the fact that Eda leaked the news of her affair with Tolga. She yells at Eda for being selfish and taking advantage of Tolga and she nonchalantly answers that she is a selfish person and Tolga is already aware of that. Ceylan feels enraged when Eda shows no remorse over it and Eda blames Tolga for being with her despite knowing how she is which is why she has no reason to feel sorry for him. Ceylan advises her to see a doctor as she clearly is taking out her father’s frustration on innocent people like Tolga. Eda sits closer to Ceylan and asks her if she likes Tolga and Ceylan rises in anger and strongly disses her comment.
Eda tells her that he has only been pretending to be oblivious to Ceylan’s feelings for Tolga as she didn’t want to embarrass her. Eda suggests Ceylan not waste any time and go speak to Tolga since she isn’t interested in him anyway. Ceylan yells at Eda for hurting people and then pretending to act innocent. Eda asks her to leave her van at once and Ceylan angrily smashes a glass at Eda’s feet. Just then, Tolga walks in surprised to see Ceylan hurl a glass at Eda.
Tolga yells that he will not tolerate and person hurting Eda. Eda tries to intervene but she pushes her aside. He rebukes Ceylan for crossing her limits as his assistant and orders her to get out of the van. Humiliated, Ceylan tearfully leaves the van and slumps against a wall and bawls uncontrollably. Korkut observes her from a distance and feels pained to see her cry. He tries to walk up to her but stops in his tracks. Ceylan then straightens up and starts walking unaware that Korkut is following her.
Tolga wonders what prompted Ceylan behave so rudely with Eda and she asks him to leave her alone. Tolga moves closers to her and repeats that he loves her and is willing to give his life for her. Eda apologises to him saying that she has never had anyone love her so much and she rests her head against his chest.
Korkut secretly observes Ceylan help a little girl after falling from a bike.
Ceylan stops at a traffic signal and is stunned to see Korkut beside her. She asks him what it would take to get him off her back and he asks to have a coffee with her. She reluctantly agrees and he wonders if her boyfriend will mind her outing with him. She says that her boyfriend won’t mind as they had a breakup and he concludes that she is using him to get over her boyfriend. She has second thoughts about it and he grabs her arms and leads her somewhere. She refuses to go along until he tells her where they are headed to and he mocks her saying that he is taking her to get married. She reminds him that she isn’t a fast girl and her nervousness elicits a smile on his face.
Eda and Tolga openly visit a restaurant where they are hounded by the paparazzi. They sit by the window and Eda sweetly waves out to the media photographers. Tolga asks her to look at him instead of the reporters and she justifies that the reporters have been waiting for long and that she has to be nice to them. Tolga receives a call from Asiye who insists on speaking to Ceylan. Tolga informs her that Ceylan is not with him and she dejectedly hangs up.
Ceylan and Korkut are at a local restaurant where Korkut is amazed to know that Ceylan has never tried raki (local alcoholic beverage) before. Ceylan awkwardly reveals that she will be trying raki with him for the first time. They clink their glasses and Korkut chugs his drink while Ceylan feels disgusted by the smell of the drink.
Ceylan keeps the glass down and clarifies that he shouldn’t expect her to hold his hands and be all lovey dovey with him. Ceylan confesses of lying about her boyfriend and he sniggers that he was already aware of it. She goes on that she is still very old-school but Korkut is unable to hear anything as he clutches his head following a terrible headache. She rattles on about her thoughts as Korkut winces in pain. She regrets being a weird person and decides to make a start and offers him her hand to hold. He weakly replies that she isn’t doing anything wrong and that she doesn’t need to change anything about herself. He tells her to give herself some more time and that she will definitely find true love. Happy with his statement she takes a sip of raki and then cringes at its bitter taste.
Tahsin is fretting over Ceylan’s absence and Gonul asks him to relax as she must have gone out with her friends. Tahsin looks tensed but the moment Gonul holds his hand to console him he breaks into a sweet smile. Asiye witnesses this scene from a distance and calls out to him. She asks him to call the police to look for their missing daughter. Gonul gets in her house and Asiye confronts Tahsin over his ‘hand catching consoling’ session with Gonul. They bicker for some time and then leave to look for Ceylan.
Completely sloshed Ceylan sings a melancholy song as Korkut grips his head in pain. Ceylan passes out on the table and Korkut recalls Arsala singing the same song for him. He drinks another glass of raki and then bends forward to plant a soft kiss on Ceylan’s lips. (No matter how romantic this scene may seem on TV I personally abhor the idea of kissing a woman without her consent especially when she is unconscious. I have seen this a lot in Korean dramas and I do not understand why people find this romantic.)
