‘If You Wish Upon Me’ Script Made Ji Chang Wook Emotional

Ji Chang Wook stated he cried ‘a lot’ after reading the script for his upcoming show “If You Wish Upon Me” for the first time.

In an interview with Dailyan, actor Ji Chang Wook said that the gloomy but warm script moved his heart. The character of Gyeo Rae appealed to him and he wanted to play the role of a lonely person.

KBS2 drama “If You Wish Upon Me” is inspired by a Dutch organization named “Ambulance Wish Foundation” that consists of volunteers who help fulfill the last wishes of terminally ill patients.

Ji Chang Wook will portray the character Yoon Gyeo Re, a ‘broken adult child’ with a painful past, enduring life by inflicting pain upon himself. His tattoos are proof of how addicted he is to self-inflicted pain.

I am not into sad dramas and I always avoid shows that can make me cry. This drama, however, looks enticing to me because it offers a path to self-discovery through someone else’s journey.

Now, Yoon Gyeo Re has had a tough childhood shuffling through orphanages and juvenile centers. So, he probably despises his life and harbors no love or attachment. When such a despondent person learns about others’ hardships and starts living for others, his life’s trajectory changes and becomes more meaningful. This concept seems quite enticing and I’m sure Ji Chang Wook will do full justice to the role because emotional scenes are his forte.

You can watch “If You Wish Upon Me” from August 10 on KBS2.
