10 Most Romantic And Memorable Scenes In Korean Dramas

Last month, I completed five years of watching K-dramas. I still remember how I binge-watched my first Korean drama ‘It’s Okay, That’s Love’. At first, I found the drama comical and did not think I would watch beyond episode one. But then, the cliffhanger effectively roused my interest and made me click on episode two and since then I have never looked back. I completed the show within three days and have binged several other shows till now.

Dwelling in drama-land can make you forget any stress or tension in life. And when a certain scene touches your heart, that drama can become unforgettable. Over these 5 years, I have cherished heart-moving drama moments that have brought a smile to my face even on the dullest of days.

I wanted to make a cumulative list of drama moments consisting of my favorite romantic and memorable scenes from Korean, Taiwanese, and Japanese dramas. But, KDrama is where it all started for me so I thought let’s have a post dedicated to Korean dramas only. I will make a separate list for T and J dramas too.

For now, here are my most favorite and the best Korean drama romantic and memorable scenes. And in case, you haven’t watched these dramas then I have provided the background of each scene so you get an idea of what it is about and why I find it so special.

1. It’s Okay, That’s Love

Episode 4: Scene starts at 1:30

Jang Jae Yeol is in love with Hae Soo who despises him for his playboy image. One night, they happen to be at his house where she tells him how she has been coping and recovering from her fear of intimacy. Jae Yeol then abruptly kisses her and gets a tight slap from Hae Soo in return. Fuming she starts to leave his house, when he pins her against the wall and narrates a story of a cave in a village. He says that the cave does not receive light for a thousand years and everyone tries to get rid of the darkness thinking it would take a thousand years for light to shine upon it when it actually takes just a moment. He tries to imply that even if Hae Soo has never been able to make love to anyone in 30 years, she can still feel love and that it will take barely an instant for it to happen.

Seeing Jae Yeol with that lighter in his hand trying to explain the process of falling in love to Hae Soo makes my heart flutter even now. This scene is so magical, you can feel Hae Soo’s nervous tension as well as Jae Yeol’s earnest attempt.

2. It’s Okay To Not Be Okay

Episode 4: Start at 53:40

Moon Young is attacked by her father who curses and abuses her. Shaken by the attack, Moon Young stands up and starts walking aimlessly. She leaves her car behind and simply keeps walking all alone by herself to nowhere. Gang Tae is on his way back home on a bus when he sees her walking on the road looking visibly downcast and lost. He reaches home and attends to his regular chores but deep down in his mind, he is unable to stop thinking and worrying about Moon Young. Later that night, when his friend returns from work, he tells Gang Tae about what happened with Moon Young at the hospital. Gang Tae then realizes why she looked in a daze on the street. That very moment, he rushes out of his house to check on Moon Young. He eventually finds her walking completely drenched and barefoot in the rain near a bridge.

The look of sheer relief on Moon Young’s face after a mentally traumatic experience is simply priceless. She knows there is absolutely no one in this world who cares for her and in such a situation when the man she likes comes to her rescue without being asked is so heart-warming. This is not a regular drama co-incidence where the male-lead appears out of nowhere. This is a genuine connection between two people. Gang Tae feels Moon Young’s pain and hence reaches out to her even without her asking for it.

3. Just Between Lovers

Episode 12: Starts at 56:20

Now here is a kiss scene. ♥ This is one of my most favorite Kdrama kiss scenes. Moon Soo is down with a sore throat and cold and is resting at home when Gang Doo calls her. She updates him on her health and says she is craving ice-cream. He heads to her house with a tub of ice-cream but is too scared to meet her mother, so he decides to give it to her through the window of her room on the first floor.

Shocked to see him hanging on her window, Moon Soo pulls him inside her room. But at the same time, her mother knocks on her door. She quickly hides Gang Doo under her blanket and her mother hands her a glass of decoction for her throat. Moon Soo, breathes a sigh of relief after her mother leaves and quickly pulls the blanket off Gang Doo. He then rises up to pull Moon Soo in for a kiss. She pulls back saying he might catch a cold because of her and he smiles offering to take ‘all of it’ with him.

Moon Soo covering her mouth to protect Gang Doo from catching a cold is so cute. Here I found the scene on YouTube. I hope you enjoy this scene. Remember to click on captions [CC] below.

4. Because This Is Our First Life

Episode 2: Starts at 1:00:00

Ji Ho moves out of a rented apartment because her roommate and house owner, Se Hee is a young unmarried man and though she has no problem with him, it still does not feel right to live with a man. She moves into a tiny room near her workshop where she can live temporarily before she finds another house. One night, as she tries to sleep, the assistant director, Yong-seok barges into her room drunk and tries to get cozy with her. She manages to push him off and runs out of the house.

She tries to go to her brother but she knows how useless a chap he is and then walks aimlessly till she stops in front of the building where she shared an apartment with Se Hee. She stands clueless wondering what brought her there and turns to leave when she sees Se Hee holding a can of beer and some groceries, looking back at her.

Just imagine being in Ji Ho’s place feeling completely hopeless and lonely with no place to go and then unexpectedly bumping into your last ray of hope. You don’t have to kiss or touch a person to show the kind of connection your share with them. Such instances are enough to prove it. It is scenes like these that make me fall in love with Kdramas all over again.

I found a short version of this scene on YouTube. Watch it from 2:30 and stop at 2:56.

5. Guardian: The Lonely and Great God

Episode 2: Starts at 1:13:00

Eun Tak is kidnapped by loan sharks who wish to retrieve the loan that her evil aunt owes them. They beat and threaten her with bad consequences if she doesn’t pay up. Howling for help, she tries to summon the Goblin but is unable to do so. However, the mark on her body that connects her to the Goblin somehow notifies him of the danger that she faces. Without wasting a second, he reaches the spot, with Grim Reaper in tow and slices the car in two pieces. What ensues is a funny banter between Eun Tak, the Goblin, and the Grim Reaper.

Not a romantic scene per se but is motivated by love hence this scene makes it to my list. Goblin is a masterpiece in Korean dramas. And this scene is one of its best. I get goosebumps each time I watch it. What can be a better cliff-hanger than have two tall and handsome men, one a grim reaper and the other the Goblin, coming to the rescue of our lady in distress? Heize & Han Soo-ji’s music ‘Round and Round’ is hauntingly beautiful that adds both mystery and relief to the scene. The rage and blood in Goblin’s eyes make my heart yearn for a glimpse of him in real life.

Here is the edited version of the scene.

6. Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim

Episode 2: Start at 7.49

To experience the magic of this scene, you need to consider the past of our characters and their current circumstances. Dr. Yoon Seo Jung and Dr. Kang Dong Joo both previously worked at Geodae hospital, which is the biggest hospital in Seoul. Seo Jung was Dong Joo’s senior at work who even bullied him a little. One day, they shared a moment as Dong Joo kissed Seo Jung after a sheer adrenaline rush. Due to certain chain of events that follow, they are separated as Seo Jung quit the hospital and no one knew anything about her. Dong Joo continued working at Geodae but due to some problem with the bosses, he is transferred to Doldam hospital. Now, Dong Joo detests  the idea of working at a small, unknown hospital located outside the city. He resists the change with all his might but somehow manages to reach Doldam and when he is here, he sees the woman who he likes and had been looking for for a while.

Our male lead is changing out of his shirt when our sweet female lead walks into the room. The importance of the scene is felt only after watching the first episode. Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim is an underrated drama that needs more exposure. You can watch this amazing drama on YouTube.

For now, check out the scene I just told you about. Stop at 8.39.

7. Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

Episode 11

Now this is not a rescue scene but a ‘support’ scene. Hae Soo is in distress knowing that Court Lady Oh Seo Yoon has received the death penalty for something she did not do. Hae Soo decides to kneel in front of the King’s quarter in protest of the unfair decision. She kneels for two whole days hoping for the King to change his decision but to no avail. The King states that anyone supporting her would be answerable to him. In this testing time, Hae Soo learns that a difficult period can make your own people turn their back on you. As it rains heavily, she slumps slightly when suddenly a black cape covers her head and she looks up to see Wang So protecting her from the rain while he stands completely drenched.

This scene is so impactful that you start feeling the character’s pain and sadness. I tried to find this drama online but couldn’t find it. But I have images of the same. Have a look. See how the man she thought she loved turns his back on her while the man she was afraid of is the one who defies his father and comes to her aid.

8. Descendants of the Sun

Episode 3 – The very first scene

Dr. Kang Mo Yeon is transferred to a remote area named Urk for volunteer work. The first day she arrives in Urk she is surprised to see Yoon Si Jin who she sees first time in his uniform walking toward her with his squad. Si Jin is her ex-boyfriend who she had to breakup with because they couldn’t maintain a long-distance relationship.

This drama is full of heart-melting scenes but my favorite one remains this reunion in Urk. It feels like the universe conspired to get these two star-crossed lovers together. Not to mention the sparkling chemistry of the Song-Song couple.

Here is the shorter, edited version of it to give you an idea of it. However, I’d suggest you watch the drama as it is totally worth watching.

9. The Inheritors (aka The Heirs)

10 Best Korean Drama Moments

Episode 1: Start 14:28

Here is a heart-stoppingly beautiful scene. Heart-stopping because the female-lead is in a very scary situation when the male lead comes to her rescue.

With tremendous effort, Eun Sang finally manages to make her way to America to meet her older sister, Eun Suk. But on reaching the States, she learns that her sister is not a student but works as a waitress in a hotel. Heartbroken she picks a fight with her sister who takes all her money and runs away leaving Eun Sang to fend for herself in a new country. Kim Tan is a rich boy studying in the US. Being Korean himself, he understands all that happens between Eun Sang and her sister. So, when Eun Sang gets caught by the police he decides to help her. He drops her at her sister’s place, which is in a very shady area. He sees that there is no one at home and knowing how unsafe it can be at night, he warns her of it but she is adamant to stay back and wait for her sister. As he leaves, some local guys spot her alone outside the house and start to trouble her. She manages to hide but is scared by the experience. After they leave, she picks her bag and takes the sidewalk when a car comes speeding and stops right next to her and there is whistle whistle Kim Tan!! Yay!!

I love this scene so much. ♥♥ I can’t believe he came back for her. Had I been Eun Sang, I would have never left with a stranger even if he was as hot as Min Ho. But since this is dramaland, I really appreciate the fact that he ensured that she was safe.

Here it is the scene. Watch it till the end. Min Ho in orange pants. ♥♥ One of the few moments in the show when the background music was on point.

10. Coffee Prince

10 Best Korean Drama MomentsImage Courtesy: Youtube, MBC

Episode 10: Scene starts at 57:11

This classic KDrama is a gender-bender. Choi Han Kyul is struggling to understand his own feelings. After having numerous affairs with women in the past, he cannot wrap his head around the idea of falling for Eun Chan who he assumes to be a boy. Eun Chan too does not correct him as she bags a full-time position at this coffee shop where he hires only male employees. After days of agonizing over his growing feelings for Eun Chan, he finally gives in. He drives back to work late in the evening where he finds Eun Chan alone and kisses her. He confesses his love for her saying that he doesn’t care if he is a guy or an alien he loves her and that’s it.

Aww….so cute this scene! What makes it better is Eun chan kissing Han Kyul back. <3

I found the scene online but without English subtitles. Watch it till the end.

Indulging in or binging on Korean dramas is an experience no one should miss. When I go through a drama slump, I settle for watching selective scenes from my favorite dramas and enjoy experiencing the butterflies and excitement of a moment all over again.
