In-House Marriage Honey Review: Proof! Arranged Marriage Couples Also Have A Love Story

Some couples fall in love and then get married while some get married and then fall in love. ‘In-House Marriage Honey’ follows the latter as our couple gets into a marriage of convenience and then slowly falls in love with each other. Marriage of convenience is one of my favorite drama tropes so I had to watch this drama.

It is a simple story in which our lead characters are both facing some difficulties in their life and decide to marry each other as a matter of urgent need and convenience. What starts as an awkward relationship, gradually develops into a full-blown romance with lots of heart-swirling moments.

In-House Marriage Honey/Shanai Marriage Honey (2020) (7 Episodes)

Haruta Ami (Matsui Airi) calls off her engagement after she finds out that her fiancée (boyfriend of five years) was cheating on her. She feels low about the broken engagement and signs up with a dating app. On the app, she comes across the profile of Miura Manatsu (Itagaki Mizuki) who states that he is looking for a girl who is willing to marry him right away. The thought of marriage without any hassle tempts Ami as she wishes to get over her unfaithful ex. She decides to meet Manatsu and discuss marriage with him.

Manatsu is not one to waste time and after a brief talk, he gets married to Ami. They start living together and take things slow as a newly married couple. Manatsu does not ask Ami any questions and she is okay about not knowing much about him. But things change when they discover the fact that they are actually co-workers working for the same company. Since their marriage happened in a haste, they did not inform anyone at work about the new life development. They decide to hide their relationship status at work and go on with life as usual.

At home, they slowly learn more about each other and feel the strong attraction between them. In a matter of days, love blossoms and they become a married couple in the true sense.

Let’s have a look at this tender loving drama and see what makes it a sweet and recommended watch.

I enjoyed watching ‘In-House Marriage Honey’ because…

…I liked this uncomplicated love story. I have not come across many dramas that have the lead couple fall in love after a legal marriage or an arranged marriage. I found the concept distinctly interesting. Since the show is short, the story progresses quickly with minimum conflicts.

Ami is a regular girl who may have got married in a haste and without giving the decision much of a thought but she does not cry about it. She decides to accept the situation and make things work with her husband. Initially, she feels nervous and hesitant about making any kind of romantic gestures towards Manatsu who is actually a complete stranger to her. But she finds him too attractive to contain her growing affection. She then attacks him with her cute face, and gestures that compel him to feel drawn to her.

Manatsu too is awkward and nervous at first living with a stranger but he senses Ami’s growing interest and decides to go with the flow. After all, the way she uses her charms on him, he knows it will only be a matter of time before he caves in.

And when our leads finally become a couple, the show becomes even more interesting to watch. Their romance is sweet as honey and watching them fall madly in love is every romantics’ ideal drama to watch.

Ami and Manatsu may be strangers but they have an honest relationship. There are many instances in the dorama where one of them is hesitant about sharing something but they eventually do speak frankly hoping that the other person will understand. And both of them are understanding, which helps run the relationship smoothly.

…the short duration of the show helps keep the interest intact. This show has only 7 episodes with a run time of barely 24 minutes for each episode. I binge-watched it in a couple of hours and loved it.

I did NOT LIKE ‘In-House Marriage Honey’ because

…nah! I liked it a lot. There is nothing to be serious about this show. So, it’s best to enjoy it the way it is i.e. a quick fluffy Japanese dorama.

An arranged marriage to a complete stranger may seem scary because of the uncertainty attached to it. However, this gamble of love can go either way and when it takes the good route you find a cute couple like Ami and Manatsu.

I give ‘Shanai Marriage Honey’ 4 out of 5 rating. Cuteness overload is the best way to describe this show. Lots of hugs and kisses and ahem… love 😉 without any unwanted complications. Catering to romance lovers this show just cannot disappoint you. Enjoy this short and sweet dorama.
